Over the past couple of months, Alloy 26 has had the pleasure of hosting events with Moms Can Code, an organization founded by Erica Peterson. These events included their MomsCanCode.com Launch Party & Info Session and their CSS Workshop. Moms Can Code has also attracted attention from the media and Erica was interviewed on Pittsburgh’s local Fox News station. Check out the video here!

Most recently, Moms Can Code participated in the 2017 Invest in Her Pitch Competition, and along with another female-run startup FizzPop, earned an investment and countless perks for their early stage business. Read more about the Pitch Competition here!

What’s most exciting to us about Mom’s Can Code’s win at the Invest in Her Pitch Competition, is that Erica will now be setting up shop at Alloy 26 to work out of our co-working space. We sat down with Erica to learn a little more about her company and what she has going on!

Check out our interview below with Erica Peterson.

Where did the idea for Moms Can Code come from?

I just wanted to learn how to code again, and when I didn’t know where to begin, I thought I’d ask another mom. The problem? I couldn’t figure out how to connect with other moms learning how to code. There are support groups for everything, why not this?

How was your experience with the Invest in Her Pitch Competition and how has it helped you grow?

It was such an honor just to be recognized as a finalist amongst such accomplished business women in Pittsburgh. Winning the competition will allow the team to really focus on offering more value to our members.

What’s next for Moms Can Code?

Over the next few weeks, the focus will really be on growing the Moms Can Code team and we’ll finally share all of the events we’ve been planning across the United States.

Do you have events coming up?

Yes! We have an event coming up in Pittsburgh at Threadbare Cider on November 15th. Moms Can Code will receive 12% of all food and drink sales that evening and we will use the money to offer childcare at our upcoming Pittsburgh workshops and meet-ups. Companies interested in becoming an Internship Partner and learning more should join us!
